Balkan Burger

Balkan style burger known as Pljeskavica with fresh Somun/Lepinje bread cooked entirely in the Artisan Tandoor Hunter oven!

Ingredients

  • 500g Beef Mince
  • 1 Brown Onion
  • Salt
  • Black Pepper
  • Paprika
  • Cheddar Cheese Slices (use Cheese of your preference)
  • Yeast Sachet (7g)
  • White Sugar
  • Water
  • All Purpose Flour (White)
  • Oil

Preparation – Burger Patty (Pljeskavica)

  1. Place the Beef mince in a bowl.

  2. Finely dice the brown Onion and add to bowl.
  3. Add salt, black Pepper and Paprika to the bowl with the mince.
  4. Mix all ingredients in the bowl well.
  5. Open the mince and place the Cheddar cheese slices inside, close and flatten.

Preparation – Burger Bread (Somun/Lepinje)

  1. Add 1 cup of water into mixing bowl.
  2. Add 1 Yeast sachet to mixing bowl.
  3. Add half tbsp of sugar into the mixing bowl and mix well.
  4. Add white flour and a pinch of salt and mix well.
  5. It is important to keep the dough soft during the process.
  6. Add more white flour if necessary and mix.
  7. Flour the cooking table and place the dough on top and continue mixing with your hand.
  8. The dough must remain sticky to your hands.
  9. Discard the excess flour.
  10. Add some oil to the flour.
  11. Once the dough is mixed well and sticky consistency, allow to rest for 15 minutes at room temperature and to soak in the oil.
  12. When the dough has rested, sprinkle some flour on your working surface.
  13. Roll the dough in the flour on the working surface.
  14. Divide the dough into equal portion pieces.
  15. For reach portion, close the edges of the dough by pulling them in (zig zag)
  16. The dough is now ready, allow to rest for another 15 minutes covered by glad wrap or table cloth.
  17. Flatten the dough by pressing inwards.

  1. Place the bread  dough portion on the middle tier of the tiered rack included with your Artisan Tandoor oven.
  2. Check the bread after 5-7 minutes and flip if necessary. Once cooked and crisp, remove the bread and set aside.
  3. Place the burger patty in the middle tier of the tiered rack.
  4. Cook the burger patty for 12-15 minutes.
  5. Once cooked, remove the burger patty.
  6. Cut the bread in half and add Cheddar cheese slices to the bottom portion of the bread.
  7. Place the burger on top of the cheese on the bottom portion of the bread.
  8. Place the completed burger in the Tandoor oven (mid tier) and cook for an additional 2 minutes to melt the cheese.
  9. The Balkan style burger is now ready!
